Listings provided by.

Friday, March 12

Behind Forgotten Eyes @ Cinema Skohole near Nagoya Station

This must-see documentary about Korean comfort women during WWII will have 2 showings (18:20 & 20:20). The director, Anthony Gilmore, will also give a 30-minute Q&A between the showings. ADV1,500 / DOOR 2,000 (student discount available). The DVD is also available online. A portion of all proceeds will go to the House of Sharing, which serves as a residence for survivors of these war crimes.

Soul Food @ Club Arena in Sakae from 2:00 AM
Andy S.’ weekly after hours party is still going strong. Once iD kicks you out or the party you paid 3000 yen to get into starts to wind down, why not head over to Arena & catch his addictive mix of both new & classic dance music for FREE! I hear he has even started mixing in a couple of his own tracks, and they are H-O-T! Arena is located behind the Chunichi Building in Sakae, just opposite of MK Parking, in the Joshidai Building. There’s no website, but check the map here.

Coming soon!

Saturday, March 13

Vinny Vintage @ Roots Vibes in Sakae from 21:00

Last Friday, a few performances at Rock For Haiti really stood out from the rest, and the smooth rhymes of this local Hip Hop artist was certainly one of them. He & his crew gave that benefit concert the dose of flava it so desperately needed. Go see what all the hype is about when he goes live at one of Nagoya’s coolest sound bars this Saturday. ADV 500 / DOOR 1000, women free before 23:00

Metro @ Club Wall in Sakae from 22:00

For over 17 years, the party people of the METRO Club have been providing gay, lesbian & open-minded people a place to come together to celebrate diversity & enjoy life. And for that, I applaud them. You can, too, if you head over to Club Wall (just around the corner from the LOFT Sakae) this Saturday. As always, there will be Drag Queens galore, the best in dance music & fabu floor shows! 2500 (2D)

FREEEK @ The Plastic Factory in Imaike from 22:00

I made a HUGE f-up in this month’s Nagoya Live Guide in Japanzine. FREEEK, easily Nagoya’s #1 up & coming DJ scene, is on this weekend, not the 20th! My apologies to DJs tAkatronik, NAGiSA , and the rest of the FREEEK crew. Don’t let my mistake keep you from hearing their amazing mix of cutting edge house music this Saturday. You’ll soon understand why they call it “Heaven’s Music.” ADV 1500 / DOOR 2000 (1D) Reserve your tickets at www.freeek.jp/adv/. And for all of you iPhone fanatics out there, make sure you check out their new App available right here.

SMASH @ Club Mago in Shinsakae from 22:00

*SIGH* It’s just not the same without DJ Babur. ADV 2000 / DOOR 2500 (1D)

Sunday, March 14

Nagoya Swings @ Shooters in Fushimi from 18:00

The only local international jazz swing group, Nagoya Swings, has found a new home, and is very excited to be bringing their monthly workshop to everyone’s favorite American-themed bar & grill, Shooters. If you’re tired of the bump n’ grind on all the modern dance floors in town, than why not add a little style to your steps, roaring 20s style. They will be offering dance lessons for beginner & intermediate skill levels. They can teach you the basics of East Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, as well as a few others. You don’t need a partner, just a will to dance. 500 yen

Mr. Rooney @ the Red Rock in Sakae from 14:00

Another of the unforgettable performers from last Friday’s benefit concert, local rock star, Michael Wade (AKA Mr. Rooney) will be doing it unplugged at the Red Rock’s weekly Sonic Sundays. 1000 (1D) As an added bonus & on behalf of Nagoya’s 400th anniversary and the Red Rock’s 10th birthday, draft beer is only 400 yen all year long!

Monday, March 15

Free Open Jam @ MISFITS in Imaike from 20:00

To be honest, I am getting mixed stories about the fate of this very popular open mic. I do know that last week’s was a barn burner (that’s southern for “huge party”), and that the dominant theory is that the jam will continue. However, you will have to check it out for yourself next Monday to see what the truth is. Either way, I’m sure it’s still free.

Tuesday, March 16

Young Savage @ Club Buddha in Shinsakae from 21:00

Local DJs playing a whole mess of 50s & 60s rock. ADV 1800 (2D) / 2000 (2D)

Wednesday, March 17

Dr. Cullen’s All Star Magical Mystical Irish Extravaganza @ The Red Rock in Sakae from 20:00

As the only place in town celebrating St. Patty’s on the actual date, the Red Rock gets extra points… and loses them all due to the fact that they’re an Australian bar. However, that should not stop any of you from going to hear Nagoya’s number one son of Ireland sing his collection of pub-faves, as well as his own moving ballads. 500 yen music charge. *I AM NOT SURE IF THEY WILL HAVE THEIR USUAL HUMP NIGHT NOMIHOUDAI

THE Cheapest Nomihoudai in Japan @ Misfits in Imaike from 20:00 – 23:00

All for only 1000 yen.
